In Canada, all original creative works are protected by copyright. Copyright means the right to make copies of a work. Under Canada's Copyright Act, the person who owns the copyright, often the creator of the work, has the right to decide when and how the work is copied. Copyright applies to all creative work, including art, music, video and the printed word. Copyright applies to all text, graphic images and sound reproduction. Any material from the Internet or the World Wide Web should not be copied or distributed unless the web site gives explicit permission to do so. The Nova Scotia Community College has signed two licensing agreements that give NSCC students, faculty and staff the right, under specific conditions, to make photocopies and show videos without infringing Canada's Copyright Act.
